Early Autumn makeup must-haves

Autumn/Winter means business.

September's colder climes mean we can all get back to wearing Clothes with a capital 'C'. Pieces with real tailoring and labels which whisper enticingly '100% wool'. What I'm saying is, a khaki trench coat paired with a thigh-skimming suede boot makes a jersey bardot dress look like a really bad joke. It's September, and it's finally time for pastel shades and floral prints to make way for the big boys.

My enthusiasm for Autumn extends beyond my wardrobe though. Recently I've been stocking up on Autumnal makeup as if my adherence to a wintery face might somehow shame Summer into giving up for another year. Here are my essentials so far (though there will almost definitely be more to come).

Revlon Matte Balm in Fiery

Finally! The perfect rich berry matte lip colour without the faff. There's no lip liner needed with this and it's so smooth and moisturising you can just swipe it on and forget about it. Flakey, dry matte lipsticks are now a thing of the past (thank god).

Clarins Instant Concealer

An absolute must for the foundation refuseniks among us. This is a rich, creamy, dewy concealer which covers anything and stays put all day, without looking mask-like or heavy. Winter glow in a squeezey tube.

Benefit Dew The Hoola

I snapped this up free with Elle Magazine but it's totally worth splashing out for if you're of the pale persuasion. It's a super-blandable liquid bronzer which gives a sheer vale of golden glow without ever looking muddy. Pair with bed-hair and aforementioned khaki coat.

Benefit Gimme Brow

If, like me, you hope and pray that we have finally reached peak sharpie-brow, give Benefit's Gimme Brow a try. A quick brush through each brow gives fullness and fills in gaps without producing that mega-defined insta-frown look.

Stila Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner

This is without doubt the best eyeliner around right now, and I have tried them all. The felt tip applicator is fine, firm and never dries out, and the liner liquid is quick-drying, deepest black and totally unsmudgeable.

NYX illuminator in Enigmatic

NYX highlighters are affordable, beautiful and now available at Boots (rejoice!). The soft peachy tone of Enigmatic gives a subtle warm glow, and steers clear of the icey shine or chunky glitter you might expect from a bargain powder.
